The best of GitHub, without the homework.
Welcome to Git After Work. GitHub has 500 million repos. We found the good ones. You’re welcome.
The Problem
GitHub is a library where someone threw all the books on the floor. The real pain is not finding repos—GitHub search exists, Google exists. The pain is trust. You find a repo, spend 40 minutes reading it, clone it, and discover it was last updated in 2019 and breaks on Node 18. That is the moment Git After Work owns.
Our Philosophy
The moat is the filter, not the feed. Every other directory shows you everything. Git After Work shows you what cleared the bar. That editorial conviction, the willingness to say “this one yes, that one no,” is the thing no algorithm builds and no scraper replicates.
Why This Exists
- Curated for shelf life, not spike traffic. GitHub trending is just what got shared on Twitter today.
- Every repo here has a reason. Awesome Lists have 400 items and no opinions.
- Built for your time. Designed for the developer who has an hour after dinner and wants to come away with something useful.
- Active maintenance is a requirement, not a bonus. Too many repos are abandoned the moment you need them.
- Organized by what it does for you. We categorize by utility, not just what language it is written in, so even non-developers can find open-source tools worth actually using.

The Bottom Line
Git After Work is the first GitHub repo showcase built around a single premise: your time after work is valuable. You are not at the office. You are not on the clock. You are building something for yourself, learning something new, or solving a problem that has been sitting on your list for weeks. This is not the place to browse 500 options. This is the place to open one tab, find the right tool in under three minutes, and get back to building.
Less browsing. More building.
